[SOLVED] Linux (Ubuntu) Wireless stopped working

Problem: 

Wireless led stopped blinking. Networking is disabled at every start.

Root cause: 

Laptop was powered down while in hibernate.

Fix: 
  1. Turn on the laptop
  2. Hibernate the system
  3. Un-hibernate the system

[SOLVED] TypeError: structseq() takes at least 1 argument (0 given)

Problem: 

Copying and pasting a Python datastructure into an interpreter or script throws an exception:

Error message:

TypeError: structseq() takes at least 1 argument (0 given)

Root cause: 
The difference in how time.struct_time is presented and instantiated.



Fix: 

Try this
time.struct_time((2011, 12, 20, 15, 29, 44, 1, 354, -1))

instead of this
time.struct_time(tm_year=2011, tm_mon=12, tm_mday=20, tm_hour=15, tm_min=29, tm_sec=44, tm_wday=1, tm_yday=354, tm_isdst=-1)

[SOLVED] Libgcrypt warning: missing initialization - please fix the application

Problem: 
Lightgm (GDM) prevents the user from loggin in.

Error message: 
As seen in /var/log/syslog:
login[XXX]: Libgcrypt warning: missing initialization - please fix the application

Root cause: 
Updated files in /etc/pam.d


Fix: 
  • Comment out all pam_krb5.so modules from PAM config files in /etc/pam.d

Root cause:
Time on the local machine out of sync with twitter servers.

Fix:
Correct the date and time on the local machine

[SOLVED] Hadoop: Error: JAVA_HOME is not set.

Problem: 
Hadoop complains about not being able to find java (JAVA_HOME not set).

Error message: 
Error: JAVA_HOME is not set.

Fix: 
Edit $HADOOP_HOME/conf/hadoop-env.sh and set your JAVA_HOME directory accordingly. For default ubuntu install it would most likely be

export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk

No dedicated 64-bit binary.

Fix:

  1. Go to http://www.real.com/realplayer/linux
  2. Download the 32-bit DEB installer
  3. From the command line:
    $ sudo dpkg -i --force-all Real*.deb

[solved] Eclipse - Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0".

Problem:
Java Swing programs won't run in Eclipse.

Error message:
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0".

Root cause:
Your graphics card driver does not support the RANDR extension.

Fix:
Edit xorg.conf, find "xinerama" section and change "on" to "off".
